First blog post – testing the waters

Well ok, here we are! My first blog post ever, and now that I’m all set up and ready to go, I’m not sure where to begin. I suppose I can begin with introducing myself. Hi! I’m Darlene, and I wanted to set up this travel blog for a couple of reasons. For starters, of course, I Iove to travel. New food, new sights and sounds, new people, it’s all good. But it can also be challenging, frustrating, exhausting, and even a little bit scary at times. So I wanted to create a place to talk about travel, both the good and the bad. Travel myths debunked, information shared, stories told. I also want to be able to encourage people who want to travel, but haven’t, for whatever reasons, to just find a way to go out and do it. It’s so very worth it, and once you start, you won’t want to stop.

So why did I decide to call this blog the Informal Traveller? Because my husband, Mark and I are pretty laid-back people, especially when it comes to travel. There won’t be any five-star hotel reviews here, because we prefer tents and small family-run hotels. We also prefer to grab our dinner from food trucks and festivals over gourmet restaurants (although they can be great once in a while too!). So while you won’t find anything too fancy-schmancy here, hopefully I can cover some topics that interest everyone. So welcome, and let’s get started, shall we?
