When my husband Mark and I started travelling together 11 years ago, there weren’t a lot of options for navigating a new city. Guide books, while great for advance planning at home, quickly became heavy and cumbersome in our luggage or backpacks.
And don’t get me started on paper maps. I can never re-fold them properly. In my frustration, I eventually create my own folds, leading to tears in the paper. (I will never have the patience for Origami, I’ve learned this.)
These days, we find ourselves relying more and more on our tablets and cellphones to plan our trips. We use them for everything – selecting attractions, booking tickets, finding restaurant reviews, tracking train and bus schedules, and so on.
Now, phone apps like GPSmyCity are making travel even easier!
GPSmyCity offers self-guided walking tours for over 750 cities around the world. The articles use the GPS tracking on your phone, so you don’t get lost while following the routes. Better yet, the maps and guides work offline – so you don’t have to worry about finding a Wi-Fi connection or using up all your data. No more lugging around heavy guide books or scrunching up maps, yay!
Each article is a separate guide you can download for free; but if you want a more in-depth city guide, you can just upgrade to the full version for a small fee.
I’m thrilled to say that several of my very own travel blog posts are now available on GPSmyCity! Here are the articles with their accompanying links:
